Stopera
The Muziektheater is now a shining star in Amsterdam's cultural scene. The curved block-type building with glass façade faces the city and provides stunning views of the Amstel River. Guests can enjoy not only world-class opera performances by De Nederlandse Opera, but also productions by the Nationale Ballet and a number of visiting modern dance companies, as well as other assorted concerts.
The building itself however still feels out of place. It is not very well integrated in Amsterdam's otherwise homogeneous historic center.
Rembrandt House
A modern annex has been recently built next to the Rembrandt’s house. Together, these two houses are today a museum of Rembrandt’s life and work. Additionally the annex and the original house serve as a small but a prestigious, stylish congress center. For a visitor The Rembrandt House Museum shows the unknown aspects of the famous painter’s life and his artistic craft.
Hermitage
Hermitage Amsterdam organizes exhibitions on one selected theme, giving usually two showings each year. All the exhibited objects are transported from the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, first with a truck to Finland, and then shipped to North of Germany, to be again brought by truck to Amsterdam. After the exhibitions all the objects travel back to Russia. The museum is closed in short periods of the exposition change.
Artis Zoo
Founded in 1838, the Artis Zoo is still as enchanting as it was nearly two centuries ago. Not only is Artis an oasis of peace right at the heart of a fast-paced city, but it is also a haven for some 700 animal species and 200 tree varieties, many on the verge of extinction. Artis is also one of the fewest zoos in Europe to have so many listed buildings within its grounds, namely the Large Museum (1855), the unique Library building (1867) and the Aquarium (1882).
